Arrived in Tokyo!
It was a long journey…
Four hours later than planned…
Yes! Asian Chao at the airport in Newark
Lucky to get to sit next to fellow participant, Josh
We finally made it!
This is how they let people know about transfer flights — by crowding around paper print outs?
And I am so so exhausted. I could barely keep my eyes open while riding the bus to the hotel. But I did get to see a little bit of the city.

Soft drink machines? (photo taken out of the bus window)
Ferris wheel and highway

It’s 9 pm here but 8 am back home. It feels a little weird to go to sleep but I missed a night of sleep and was frantically packing the night before, so hopefully I can sink into my bed and wake up in time for breakfast.

How long was the trip to get to Japan? Once you arrived there, did you see many buildings? It looks like Japan can be very colorful with all the lights and signs.
The whole trip took about a little more than 24 hours door to door, but the flight itself was 13 hours 45 min. Long! I have seen many buildings and colorful lights. I was so tired I fell asleep on the bus to the hotel, but we passed Disney Land Tokyo and saw the harbor with a bunch of lit up boats which were pretty. How was the last day of school? Sad to miss it!
The last day was great! Though we didn’t end up watching the movie so we watched a bit of a documentary about the Great Barrier Reef. We face timed with Mr. Mac which was fun. We cleaned our lockers and the room, we also played some games outside! The food was delicious, but enough about us, how was the plane food? What did Disney Land Tokyo look like?
Glad you made it safely! Turns out we left the same day after my 26 hour flight delay. It’s tough to adjust to the 5 hour time change, 14 hours must be a whole different level. Have a fun trip and keep the updates coming! 🙂
Wow…Tokyo is so colorful at night!!!
Great to hear from all of you! Mr. Mac — sorry to hear about your delay, but glad that you made it safely! Yes, 14 hours is a long time difference. I was up for an hour or so in the middle of the night, but I think I managed to sleep 7 hours or so, and I feel better than yesterday. Astrid — the plane food was good! In the morning, we had a choice of American breakfast (eggs and sausage) and Japanese breakfast (chicken and noodles). So I had the Japanese one! It was yummy. I’m about to head to the hotel buffet breakfast, which is supposed to be amazing. I’ll take photos!
Ms. Krakauer, does your visit to Japan help change your views of the country at all?
I was curious, is there any specific reason you visited Japan, or is it that you just
visited the country for fun?
Yes, I am here for a fellowship on Education for Sustainable Development. If you go back a few posts, I explained the program a few weeks ago 🙂
Anxiously awaiting more posts! Glad you made it safely.

Do you see any major cultural differences between the people and cityscape of Tokyo compared to Boston?
Yay! You’re finally in Tokyo!!!! 😀
I totally understand your exhaustion though, Ms. Krakauer. One reason is that I’m typing this late!
Is Tokyo what you expected it to be? Why or why not?
I’m happy you got there safely!

Have you seen any major differences of Tokyo and Boston? How was the trip? I assume very long and tiring. I understand you being tired though. Was i an over-night trip? Happy to know you got there safely though.
Yes, the trip was 2 weeks long. It was a long journey to get to Tokyo, but I really enjoyed being there!
When I went to Japan I saw Himeji Castle.
It must be really exiting to go to Japan. Ive always wanted to go there, but I wouldnt want to have my flight delayed.
