Lydia, Carol (my fellow TGC teacher from West Virginia), Me, and the School Principal
Today was our first day at Zaporizhia Classical Lyceum! We’ll be here for the next week, hosted by our partner teacher, Lydia, and the rest of the school community. Today, we observed several classes and met with the administrative team. This school has been recently ranked in the top 25 schools in all of Ukraine! It’s a music focused specialized public school, sort of like a charter or magnet school. All students play a musical instrument!
As excited as I am to learn about their school, Classical Lyceum staff and students are interested to know about us. So, I have a challenge for any IACS students who are reading this. Today, I videotaped Ukrainian students asking questions about you. They are eagerly awaiting your answers, and there will even be a souvenir prize from Ukraine for my favorite three responses. I’ll be looking for creativity!
Your challenge: Watch this video, and reply in one of the following ways. You are most likely to get through if you complete this by Tuesday, April 24th.
- Answer one of their questions in the comments section of this post.
- Get parent help to film and post a video response.
- Email Ms. Krakauer with your answers (in writing or pictures)
- Ask your own questions of the students here.

What is the best book you’ve ever read?

Sasha- I like to write books online in my free time. I also like to write in journals (random things) and draw! I like reading too, On Sunday, 4/22, I finished “The Last Song” by Nicholas Sparks. I think it was my favorite. Someone (Anna) would say that I talk on the phone a lot- partly because I’m calling Anna to see if she can work on a story with me…and partly because I’m a social butterfly.
Jack- I like gymnastics (I started when I was 2!), softball (began at age 7 and I’m playing for my school), WATCHING football (with my Dad-he is a raid New England Patriots fan), I used to play basketball, but now I just play with my mom, since she was on Tewksbury (the town I live in) basketball team until she stopped when I was four (she had to take care of my little brother, Andrew, who is now 8. I’m 12).
Ksenija- Yes, I have traveled! In fact, a few hours ago, I just got back from Canada! I’ve traveled to NH every summer, Florida, California, New Jersey, Texas, New York, Western MA. When I went to Canada, we drove there and back!
Veronica: I like theater, and depending on what kind of history it is, I sort of like history, too! Me, and Emily L were just in a play in March! I love acting, and I sometimes get ideas for my book that I am currently writing when I’m on stage, or watching other people perform!
Rostik: I like “Just Dance”, Wii hockey (Wayne Gretzky created it), Harry Potter and the 1/2 blood prince wii game, and Wii Sports Resort.

1.) How old are you? I’m 12.
2.) What job do you want to have when you grow up? Me: a writer, teacher, or actress.
3.) What is your favorite TV show? Mine are House of Anubis (HOA) and So random. Also, Good Luck Charlie.
4.) What is your favorite song? Mine are Starships by Niki Manaj, Safe and Sound by Taylor Swift, and Someone like You by Adele
5.) When was a time when you wanted to disappear? I wanted to when in 2nd grade, I was so upset for some reason that I randomly started crying in the middle of class….. turns out it was only because the teacher didn’t call on me when I knew the answer and no one else did.
6.) What extra curricular activities do you do (besides sports)? Drama, Piano. I’m going to do more, I just don’t know when!

Hi I am Becca,
I have a pet dog, named Sweetie. When we got her from the shelter 2 years ago every one said she was a sweeetheart….. so we named her sweetie. I also USED to have a cat and a hamster. My cat was named Rascal and the hamster was named Lil joe. ( He was very little when we got him, but he got really big. I think I spoiled him to much. ) When we had my hamster and we put him in his ball he used to run into my dogs paws. It was so funny because then my dog would push my hamster back. There is one thing I really want…… A HORSE. i love horses and I really want one. I ride them once to twice a week. Have you ever been horse back riding? It is so much fun!!! I read books about them and I draw pictures of them…. Someday I am going to own one. Do you play sports ? I also play softball. I pitch. I did basketball and Irish step dance to. I like to be active…..

Sarah, I am so excited to see all of the posts made by your school’s students. I bet being gone during the actual school year helps develop students’ interest in your trip. I’m worried that with being gone in July, my students won’t be as involved with my experience.
Hey Mrs.K! I made a video and I am going to send it to you via google docs. I do not have an email nor a youtube so I am just going to send it to you that way (I think!) If I cant send it to you that way can you tell me how to send it to you another way? BTW, I didnt know if it was supposed to be addressed to the whole class or a specific person, so I did it to the whole class because I did not want to offend anyone!

I showed some students the answers, but we didn’t have a projector. However, the students are reading the blog!
